ASA appointment

About 98 percent of people with imperfect vision qualify for laser vision correction surgery. LASIK is the most preferred form of this surgery, but a small percentage of people may be better suited for Advanced Surface Ablation(ASA). ASA is similar to LASIK in that both surgeries require a laser to reshape the cornea and allow you to enjoy a life free of glasses and contacts. ASA requires a slightly longer healing period but requires less instrumentation.

Consult the doctors at Eye Surgical Associates to discuss your vision needs and whether LASIK or ASA is right for you. With 70 years of combined surgical experience, our doctors use the most advanced technology to correct your vision while ensuring your complete comfort.

About the Surgery

During ASA, the surgeon uses an excimer laser to reshape the cornea, changing its ability to focus light on the retina. This is the same laser used in LASIK surgery. But unlike LASIK, ASA does not require the initial step of creating a corneal flap. Instead, the surgeon painlessly removes the eye's surface layer in order to access the cornea. The surgery takes less than one minute per eye. A protective contact lens must be worn for several days following the procedure to allow for complete healing, and vision typically recovers within one to four weeks.
