Daniel D. Brownstone, M.D., came to Eye Surgical Associates after serving in the United States Air Force as chief of the ophthalmology department at Scott Air Force Base Medical Center. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1981 and his Doctor of Medicine degree at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in 1988. In 1992 he completed his ophthalmology residency at Boston University School of Medicine.
Professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Brownstone is Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and maintains an active general ophthalmology practice for children and adults at Eye Surgical Associates.
Dr. Brownstone became interested in ophthalmology when he studied it as an elective during his third year of medical school. He enjoys the combination of surgery and general medicine, and the look on his patients’ faces following LASIK and cataract surgery is the best part of his job. He says it is truly a joy to work with such a talented, dedicated group of doctors and support staff.
Dr. Brownstone is also a trained classical pianist. He performs for fundraisers and church functions and plays chamber music with his family. Dr. Brownstone has also been an executive member of the Illinois Symphony Board of Directors for several years. He enjoys SCUBA diving, saltwater aquariums and backpacking in the Sierras in his spare time.

Catharine J. Crockett, M.D., joined Eye Surgical Associates in 1997. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1979. In her junior year at the Indiana University School of Medicine, she was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received her Doctor of Medicine degree with Highest Distinction there in 1986. She completed her ophthalmology residency training at the Wills Eye Hospital in 1990 and then continued her education with fellowship training in cornea and external disease at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Crockett received Board Certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1991. Professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, International Society of Refractive Surgery of the AAO, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Wills Eye Hospital Society, Women in Ophthalmology and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Crockett is currently the medical director of the Eversight Eye Bank.
The ability to help people see better is Dr. Crockett’s favorite part of her work. She enjoys the precision of surgery and the opportunity to help patients of all ages. Dr. Crockett used to run marathons, but is happy to have time for walking now. In her rare free time, she enjoys reading, jewelry making and rubber stamping.

Scott M. Pinter, M.D., came to Eye Surgical Associates in 1998 after completing his residency training at the prestigious W.K. Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He graduated with high honors, receiving his Bachelor of Science at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana in 1990, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. His Doctor of Medicine degree was bestowed in 1994 from the Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Missouri. While in medical school, Dr. Pinter was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Pinter is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, International Society of Refractive Surgery of the AAO, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Pinter chose to grow his career at Eye Surgical Associates because he wanted to raise his family in Central Illinois, where he was born. He enjoys the high-tech aspect of ophthalmology and the opportunity to enhance his patients’ lives through improved vision. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology, treating both adult and pediatric patients. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, running, and playing golf and tennis.

Kathleen L. Vize, OD is originally from Bloomington-Normal and joined Eye Surgical Associates in 2015. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Western Illinois University in 1998. She continued her education at Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, earning her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2002. While at ICO, she was named to the Dean’s List many times for both academic and clinical excellence. She completed externships at the Omni Eye Center in Atlanta, GA and the Veterans Hospital in Tomah, WI.
Dr. Vize is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Illinois Optometric Association (IOA). She maintains a comprehensive optometry practice, treating both pediatric and adult patients. She offers specialty contact lens services for bifocals and astigmatism. Her favorite part of her job is helping people.
Dr. Vize feels fortunate to practice in her hometown with excellent doctors and support staff. Dr. Vize is an avid marathon runner and occasional triathlete. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and daughter.
Dr. Edward Colloton officially stepped down from his role as President and CEO of Eye Surgical Associates on December 16, 2016. Dr. Colloton started at Eye Surgical in 1988 and has been its practice administrator since 2004. Throughout his career, Dr. Colloton has been a leader locally in Ophthalmology but also nationally and internationally as he has presented papers, led scientific discussions and taught courses to surgeons at numerous national and international eye meetings.
Through his leadership and guidance, Eye Surgical Associates has grown to 36 employees, 3 Ophthalmologists and an Optometrist who provide care to patients in more than 22,400 encounters annually. Over the next few years Dr. Colloton will continue in an advisory and consultant role for the practice. He will also continue his active involvement in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Colloton has truly enjoyed the closeness of the Bloomington-Normal community and the ability to make a difference as part of a small surgical group. He and his wife, Anne, plan to stay in the area and travel frequently to be with their adult children. He is also looking forward to more golfing, skiing and serving where needed.
